Session Title: Understanding the Written Errors Made By Hong Kong Cantonese ESL Learners: Causes, Typology and Rectification

Session Outline: This course aims to introduce participants to some common lexico-grammatical written errors made by Cantonese-speaking ESL learners in Hong Kong. The nature of the errors will be analysed and their probable causes discussed from the perspective of contrastive grammar. Participants will be invited to suggest remedial instructional materials to help students overcome these problems. Correction strategies using a consciousness-raising approach will also be demonstrated.
