Session Title: Introduction to Surface Film and Tribology

Session Outline: This course is designed to give a brief introduction to tribology, the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion. Emphasis will be placed on dry sliding friction and the evolution from the Coulomb Friction Law to the advanced friction models. The course also includes an introduction to the typical types of industrial surface coatings and the technologies used to achieve them. The effect of the coating on the tribological characteristics of interfaces will be illustrated as the course offers an introduction and overview of both topics and their inherent relationship.
